This week the theme is "Goddess" and I thought of my cat Amora! She does flounce about like a Goddess (don't all cats?) and she has lots of the male cats on our street following her around. I have painted Amora's two main admirers Hoppy and Stig and I have drawn a cartouche for each.
Here is a photograph of her posing for this painting - looking regal as always (but don't let that fool you).
I thought it would be fun to give the painting an Egyptian theme to tie in to their beliefs in sacred cats. I did some research and found out that female felines may display a scarab - the symbol of the rising sun and is equated with the solar eye so I have included these two symbols. I've limited the colours to those used in Egyptian papyrus paintings. I have also included the name of my family in Hieroglyphics at the top of the picture.
I really enjoyed doing this one. It was great to do something in a totally different style and quite funny to think of my cat in this way.

I just love this. It's cute and original. Reminds me of a quote (I think Thierry Pratchett) "In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods. They have not forgotten this."
Laura, this is absolutely wonderful! I wish I could have come up with an idea like that :) You can tell Amora iknows that she is a Goddess :) And so she should, she is beautiful! Great work!
Thanks for the comments. Love that quote Landi. How true!
I love the idea behind this piece, so original and I love anything egypian. I can see why you chose Amora, she is so pretty.
Thank you for your lovely comments on my blog.
I love this Laura. My cats are goddesses too...
This is a magnificent interpretation of Goddess power!
Love your ART, use of colours and your regal, beloved Catopatra! Also, was impressed that you put your family name in hieroglyphs! How ingenious is that! Very, very impressed!!!
Awesome idea and very inspired. I enjoyed hearing how you came up with your design. Thanks for coming by to see my "goddess" as well. :-)

I am sure Baset and the rest of the cat Goddesses appreciate this modern tribute. You can see the amount of love and creativity in this piece.:D

This is a wonderful tribute to the Egyptian cat goddess (whose name I can never remember!) Amora is beautiful and yes very regal!

Wow Laura! What a marvelous idea...Amora is so cute (she won't mind if I call her "cute" will she...being a goddess and all she might prefer something else..LOL!) Anyway, I love the theme you used...and you captured her totally! I can feel her femininity and goddess energy...believe me she KNOWS she's a goddess! The Egyptian theme is perfect. You do beautiful work! And...I like your other creations too... your art and your jewelry!

I just LOVE this!! The composition is so perfect. I've been playing around with cartoons of my poodle in Egyptian garb http://debbiewachel-artist.blogspot.com/2007/07/more-freeform.html)! and want to do more. Standard poodles are very cat-like and I always think about cats worshipped in Egyptian art! I LOVE Landi's quote - YES it is Pratchett (I LOVE his books!".
Anyway, sorry to ramble but I so love this. And thank you for your kind words as well!
